Our Doctors

Dr. Raske, board-certified veterinary surgeon, is proud to be the founding Medical Director for the Hospital for Veterinary Surgery (HVS). HVS is the first surgery-exclusive veterinary hospital in New York City.

A New York native, Dr. Raske worked at the major specialty veterinary hospitals in the New York City area before starting HVS. Dr. Raske performs a wide range of surgeries, including soft tissue, orthopedic, and oncologic procedures.  He is especially passionate about advanced orthopedic surgeries in conjunction with sports medicine and rehab.  He has demonstrated a high degree of proficiency in advanced procedures such as total joint replacements, angular limb deformities, and minimally invasive surgery.  As a veterinary surgeon and Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP), he provides both non-surgical and surgical options to his patients to optimize their long-term health and comfort.

Dr. Raske attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine before completing a small animal rotating internship and then a surgical internship.  He then went on to a three year residency in veterinary surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City to become a board-certified veterinary surgeon.  He is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) through the University of Tennessee. In his free time, Dr. Raske enjoys competing in Ironman Triathlons and spending time with his family.

Dr. Kyles is thrilled to join our inaugural team at the Hospital for Veterinary Surgery as one of our Board-Certified Veterinary Surgeons.

Dr. Kyles earned his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) from the University of Glasgow in 1988 and his Ph.D. from the University of Bristol in 1992. He completed a three-year surgical residency at North Carolina State University in 1996. Dr. Kyles earned his board certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1997.

Dr. Andrew Kyles is a renowned soft tissue and orthopedic surgeon. He is a former senior surgeon at specialty hospitals in New York City and Long Island. Prior to that, he was a clinical instructor at University of Georgia and professor of small animal soft tissue surgery at University of California, Davis. He has an extensive history of publications in peer reviewed journals.

In his downtime, Dr. Kyles enjoys spending time with his rescued pets, which includes a Yorkshire Terrier named Gwen, a mixed breed named Maggie, and a cat named Berry. He is also an avid world traveler.

Dr. Aparna Arun is a residency-trained small animal surgeon with a clinical focus in minimally invasive and soft tissue surgery. Originally from India, Dr. Arun’s passion for animals and wildlife began at a young age. She participated in wildlife fieldwork throughout her early training, including an elephant population census and a herpetology workshop studying native cobra species. These early experiences sparked her lifelong dedication to animal health and subsequently surgical care.

Dr. Arun earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Melbourne in Australia, where she completed clinical training across a wide range of species, most memorably performing fracture repair surgery on a koala. Following graduation, she moved to New York, where she has lived for nearly a decade. She practiced at Howard Beach Animal Clinic before completing a rotating internship and a surgical specialty internship at Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners, followed by a residency in small animal surgery at the Animal Medical Center (AMC) in Manhattan.

Dr. Arun is committed to providing precise surgical treatment supported by clear communication, compassion, and collaboration with primary veterinarians.

Outside the hospital, Dr. Arun enjoys exploring New York’s parks with her husband and their baby, finding new walking paths and spending time outdoors as a family.

Dr. Lederer is a native New Yorker who earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University, followed by a rotating internship at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center and a surgery specialty internship at Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center. Afterward, she spent a year at the University of Florida as the orthopedic research fellow and went on to complete a surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania.

Over the course of her career, Dr. Lederer has developed a deep appreciation for both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. She has specialized training in minimally invasive procedures, reconstruction, microsurgery, and has passed the VALS laparoscopic skills certification program (Fellow level). With experience in both private practice and academia, Dr. Lederer is excited to offer a wide spectrum of care rooted in compassionate decision-making, transparent partnership with owners, and collaborative learning.

Dr. Lederer is grateful to her clients for entrusting her with their pets’ care and for the HVS team that supports her. She has an opinionated tabby who has also lived in five states and is happy to call NYC home again. Outside of work, Dr. Lederer enjoys solo travel, dinner parties, rainy days at a museum, and browsing second-hand bookstores.

Dr. Griego-Valles is a board-certified veterinary criticalist who has been practicing in the New York City area for more than a decade. She is a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Zoology. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical year at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She went on to a rotating internship and practiced as an emergency doctor prior to residency. Dr. Griego-Valles completed her Emergency and Critical Care residency at the Animal Medical Center and has been a board-certified criticalist since January 2013. She has practiced at several large emergency and multispecialty hospitals in New York City and on Long Island prior to HVS. Dr. Griego-Valles is excited to be working closely again with her long-standing colleagues, Dr. Raske and Dr. Kyles. Her specialties include ventilator therapy, transfusion medicine, and fluid therapy for shock resuscitation with special interests in postoperative surgical care, including acute abdomen and trauma.

Dr. Griego-Valles is an avid long-distance runner including completing her first NYC marathon, reader, world traveler and football fan. Most of all, she enjoys spending time with her husband, extraordinary daughter and the Apartment Zoo pitbulls (Goggles and Tumbleweed) and cats (Fishsticks, McConaughey, Chapulina).

Dr. Fleissner is excited to join the team at the Hospital for Veterinary Surgery as a Board-Certified Veterinary Anesthesiologist. Dr. Fleissner is originally from the Midwest, and earned his B.S. from Michigan State University. He then attended Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine where he had the pleasure of being one of the caretakers for their live tiger mascot, Mike VII. Afterwards, he completed a rotating internship at BluePearl in Grand Rapids, MI, followed by an anesthesia and pain management residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Arcari received his DVM from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with his clinical rotations at the University of Minnesota. He then completed a rotating internship at Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island. Dr. Arcari worked at a large 24/7 emergency hospital and in general practice before joining HVS as our overnight hospitalist.
