Founding medical director
Matthew Raske
Dr. Matthew Raske, board-certified veterinary surgeon, is proud to be the founding Medical Director for the Hospital for Veterinary Surgery (HVS). HVS will be the first surgery-exclusive veterinary hospital in New York City.
A New York native, Dr. Raske worked at the major specialty veterinary hospitals in the New York City area before starting HVS. Dr. Raske performs a wide range of surgeries, including soft tissue, orthopedic, and oncologic procedures. He is especially passionate about advanced orthopedic surgeries in conjunction with sports medicine and rehab. He has demonstrated a high degree of proficiency in advanced procedures such as total joint replacements, angular limb deformities, and minimally invasive surgery. As a veterinary surgeon and Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP), he provides both non-surgical and surgical options to his patients to optimize their long-term health and comfort.
Dr. Raske attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine before completing a small animal rotating internship and then a surgical internship. He then went on to a three year residency in veterinary surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City to become a board-certified veterinary surgeon. He is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) through the University of Tennessee.
In his free time, Dr. Raske enjoys competing in Ironman Triathlons and spending time with his family.
Andrew Kyles
Dr. Andrew Kyles is thrilled to join our inaugural team at the Hospital for Veterinary Surgery as one of our Board-Certified Veterinary Surgeons.
Dr. Kyles earned his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) from the University of Glasgow in 1988 and his Ph.D. from the University of Bristol in 1992. He completed a three-year surgical residency at North Carolina State University in 1996. Dr. Kyles earned his board certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1997.
Dr. Andrew Kyles is a renowned soft tissue and orthopedic surgeon. He is a former senior surgeon at specialty hospitals in New York City and Long Island. Prior to that he was a clinical instructor at University of Georgia and professor of small animal soft tissue surgery at University of California, Davis. He has an extensive history of publications in peer reviewed journals.
In his downtime, Dr. Kyles enjoys spending time with his rescued pets, which includes a Yorkshire Terrier named Gwen, a mixed breed named Maggie, and a cat named Berry. He is also an avid world traveler.
HOSPITAL MANAGER
Emily Geisler, BS, LVT, VTS (Anesthesia and Analgesia)
Emily Geisler is a tenured Licensed Veterinary Technician from New York. She has distinguished herself in the veterinary community by specializing exclusively in surgery and anesthesia since joining the veterinary field in 2015. In 2021, Emily's dedication and commitment to the field of anesthesia culminated in her becoming a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Anesthesia & Analgesia.
As a member of the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Anesthesia & Analgesia (AVTAA), Emily remains passionate about continuing to support her peers and colleagues. Her contributions to the field have been recognized through publications, speaking engagements, and accolades, including the Louise O'Dwyer Aspiration Award presented by AVECCTN and AVTAA in 2020.
In her spare time, Emily enjoys hiking, being outdoors, and snuggling with pit bulls.
