Restoring Movement Through Joint Replacement
At the Hospital for Veterinary Surgery, we evaluate carefully selected patients for total joint replacement of the hip, elbow, stifle (knee), and ankle (tarsus). These advanced procedures may provide an option for dogs with severe joint disease when other treatments are no longer providing adequate comfort or function.
Total joint replacement removes damaged portions of a joint and replaces them with prosthetic components designed to restore function and reduce pain. It may be considered for dogs with severe or end-stage joint disease, persistent pain, or significant loss of mobility when medical management and joint-preserving treatments are no longer providing sufficient relief. Patient selection is critical. Every case begins with a detailed surgical evaluation to determine whether joint replacement is an appropriate treatment option.

Definitive treatment for hip dysplasia, luxation or severe OA.
Avoid salvage, FHO and restore normal biomechanics.
3-200 lbs
Elbow
For chronic elbow pain, severe OA and loss of function.
Reduces NSAID reliance and improves range of motion.
50-130 lbs
Stifle (Knee)
Persistent lameness following CCL/ACL surgery, chronic patellar disease or severe stifle OA.

Tarsus (Ankle)
Advanced solutions for severe OA secondary to OCD, instability and chronic pain.
